On Newgate Road in East Granby, Connecticut, next to Newgate Prison, is a 23 acre farm with a tight knit family background, named Newgate Farms. A family owned business starting all the way back in 1933, Newgate Farms continues to grow and sell at farmers markets all over the New York and Connecticut areas.

When students walk into the lobby of Carman Hall and are greeted by the mellow rumble of instruments belonging to jazz, R&B, or Latin music, they know immediately to stop by the front desk, because that’s a sure sign guard Michael Layne is on duty.

Layne, a security guard at Columbia for over 13 years sings, is able to play some piano, guitar, and bass, and says music plays an integral part in his life.

One is a bear, and the other’s a lion. On the inside, they are essentially the same creature. That’s the relationship Barnard College and Columbia University have with one another.

The schools are located on adjacent campuses in Morningside Heights, but one is women’s liberal arts college while the other is coed and more geared towards research. Through their affiliation, Barnard and Columbia students flow through each other’s schools like osmosis.

Despite its name, After Midnight’s 90 minutes will leave you with plenty of time to get home before 10:00 PM has even arrived. The absence of an intermission is certainly not a mistake.
